Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Boston College freshmen Alex Carpenter, Emily Field and Emily Pfalzer were among six first-year Hockey East student-athletes named to the 2012 WHEA All-Rookie Team in an announcement made early Tuesday, Feb. 28 by the league office.
Pfalzer, the only defenseman featured on the team, and Carpenter were both unanimous selections by the league’s eight head coaches. Northeastern’s Kendall Coyne was the other. Three forwards, including Field, Amanda Pelkey of Vermont and Kayla Tutino of Boston University, round out the unit.
This is the second time Boston College has had three members – a program best - selected for the All-Rookie squad. The 2006-07 season saw goaltender Molly Schaus, forward Kelli Stack and forward Allie Thunstrom received similar honors.
Carpenter led the Eagles with 35 points on 18 goals and 17 assists this season. The North Reading, Mass. native is the first to lead the team in scoring since Stack did so with 54 points in 2006-07. The center’s 1.09 points per game is fifth highest in the nation and second in the league among rookies.
Field’s 28 points (10g, 18a) are second most for Boston College. A Littleton, Mass. product, Field rated 11th overall in the Hockey East for scoring, while her team-best six power play goals are second most and four game-winning goals are third in the league.
Pfalzer totaled five goals and 12 assists during the regular season. The Getzville, N.Y. product ranked second in the conference for defensemen scoring with 17 points, ninth most in a single-season by an Eagle blue-liner. Pfalzer was called for a team-low three penalties this season, helping BC to post the eighth best scoring defense average in the country at 1.91 goals per game.
The fourth-ranked Boston College Eagles will meet the ninth-ranked Boston University Terriers in the 3:30 p.m. semifinal of the WHEA Tournament on Saturday, March 3. BC is the No. 2 seed and defending tournament champion, but BU took the regular-season series, 2-1.
