PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three players scored one goal apiece and junior goaltender Parker Milner stopped 29 shots to lead second-ranked Boston College to a 3-0 Hockey East victory over Providence before a sellout crowd of 3,030 fans at Schneider Arena.
Senior captain Tommy Cross netted a power-play goal two minutes, 30 seconds into the game and the teams played scoreless hockey for the next 44:46 before junior center Pat Mullane doubled the visitors lead at 7:16 of the third period to lead the Eagles in their eighth straight win.
Senior alternate captain Paul Careyscored into an empty Friar net with 1:06 left on the clock for the 3-0 final.
Milner registered 11 saves in the opening period, eight saves in the second and 10 in the final frame in Boston College's first shutout of the season and first since John Muse stopped all 12 New Hampshire shots in a 4-0 home win on March 4, 2011.
Sophomore Kevin Hayes and senior Barry Almeida assisted on Cross' power-play goal in the first period while freshman Johnny Gaudreau and junior defenseman Patrick Weyassisted on Mullane's third-period tally.
Gaudreau extended his scoring streak to six games in the win.
The host Friars outshot the Eagles in each period and finished with a 29-21 edge in the game.
BC went 1-for-4 with a man advantage while PC was 0-for-4 on the power play.
The teams will conclude the weekend series at Kelley Rink on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3:30 p.m. Tomorrow's game will be televised by the New England Sports Network.
