Women's Tennis Finishes Third at ECAC Indoor Championships

New Haven, Conn. - The No. 54 Boston College women's tennis team defeated No. 38 Brown, 4-2, to take third place at the ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Yale University on Sunday afternoon. The fourth-seeded Eagles (6-4) earned four key victories over the second-seeded Bears (7-3) in singles action to seal the win, as the teams did not need to play the doubles matches to decide a winner.
On court two, junior Alex Kelleher split the first two sets with Casey Herzberg, 6-1, 2-6, to force a tie breaker. The Eagle prevailed, winning, 13-11, to get the point. In the No. 3 spot, junior Olga Khmylev also played to a tie breaker, winning the first set, 6-3, and falling in the second set, 7-6, to Sarah Kandath. She earned the victory with a 8-6 tiebreaker win. On court four, senior Katarina Gajic beat Laura Wiley in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, and on court six, junior Ina Kauppila defeated Nikita Uberoi, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Freshman Jessica Wacnik lost on court one to Misia Krasowski, 7-5, 6-0, and junior Kelly Barry fell on court five, 7-5, 6-1, to Julie Flanzer.
The Eagles return to action on March 5 when they travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to play Florida Gulf Coast a 4 p.m.
