Ratings Roundup Week 19
February 14, 2012 | Women's Hockey
Feb. 14, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College women’s ice hockey team climbed back up to No. 4 on the latest USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. Last week, the Eagles (21-8-3, 13-3-2 Hockey East) defeated No. 8 Harvard, 4-2, at the 34th Annual Beanpot and swept Connecticut in a home-and-home series, 5-0, 6-2.
Wisconsin, Minnesota and Cornell all held onto the top three spots with both contingencies.
As Boston College reclaimed the No. 4 rank in the nation in both polls, North Dakota and Mercyhurst were each bumped down one spot. UND is No. 5 according to the USCHO and No. 6 for the USA Hockey standings. Conversely, Mercyhurst is No. 6/5.
Movement was minimal in other cases. Minnesota-Duluth fell out of favor with USCHO voters, sliding Boston University up to No. 9 and giving St. Lawrence its first appearance of the year at No. 10. Dartmouth received votes from USA Hockey, but fell out of the rankings.
The Eagles have two league games remaining on their regular-season schedule. BC hosts Vermont in 2 p.m. skates on Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18. Both games will be streamed live through bceagles.com.
The regular-season league crown is still up for grabs. BC is two points behind No. 7 Northeastern, but owns the tiebreakers after taking the ’11-12 meetings, 2-0-1. The Huskies control their own destiny in a home-and-home series with Providence, needing only two points (two ties or one win) should BC give up one point.
Boston College can clinch a first round bye in the Hockey East Tournament with a win/tie against the Catamounts or a BU loss/tie to Connecticut this weekend.
