CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Boston College athletics department is launching a special auction this week to help the Crush Cancer Fund for Clare, a non-profit effort set up by the Graybeards of Rockaway, New York to help fund medical expenses for former Eagles guard Clare Droesch '05.
Droesch, who played at BC from 2001-05, was diagnosed in December, 2011 with cancer. She has started her treatments and the Boston College women's basketball program and athletics department is hoping to help raise money for her expenses.
Boston College will kick off its Crush Cancer Fund for Clare Auction today at 5 p.m. at www.bceagles.com. All proceeds from the auction items will go to Clare Droesch's medical expenses. This week some of the items up for auction are a hockey stick signed by BC's 2010 national championship hockey team, a WNBA ball signed by the Chicago Sky along with an autographed photo card of BC's Carolyn Swords and a Sky t-shirt, as well as a rare painting autographed by Doug Flutie. If you are a BC fan, stay tuned to the website and the athletics Facebook for other items, such as an Atlanta Falcons Matt Ryan autographed No. 2 game jersey.
The Boston College women's basketball team will honor Clare Droesch '05 by wearing pink t-shirts Play4Kay shirts with Droesch's No. 15 on the sleeve during warm-ups in the next three games. The team will also take part in the fundraising events throughout the remainder of the season.
