
Women's Tennis Defeats Harvard, 5-2

Cambridge, Mass. - The No. 55 Boston College women's tennis team defeated No. 60 Harvard, 5-2, on Thursday evening. The Eagles (4-2) took down the Crimson (1-2) for the first time since 2008, when they also won, 5-2.
Harvard took the first point, winning two of the three doubles matches. In a tight battle on court one, the 11th-ranked junior pair Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev fell to the 25th-ranked pair Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton, 9-8(3). The Eagles' No. 32 pair freshman Jessica Wacnik and senior Erina Kikuchi won BC's lone doubles match on court two over Kelley Whelan and Hannah Morrill, 8-6. The Crimson's Samantha Gridley and Camille Jania earned the No. 3 victory over junior Ina Kauppila and senior Katarina Gajic, 9-7.
BC rallied back to win five of the six singles match and earn the victory. At the No. 1 spot, Wacnik, the only nationally-ranked singles player in the match at No. 108, defeated Tachibana in close match, winning out, 7-5, 7-6(3). Her double partner, Kikuchi, followed suit, defeating Norton, 6-3, 6-0, on court two. Kelleher fought in the No. 3 position to win her match over Natalie Blosser, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Gajic and junior Kelly Barry sealed the win for the Eagles with victories on courts five and six, respectively. Gajic defeated Morrill, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2, and Barry beat Sylva Li in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Khmylev fell in the fourth spot to Gridley, 7-6(5), 6-4.
The Eagles will face Syracuse on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. in Weymouth, Mass.
