Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College women’s ice hockey team held onto its No. 4 ranking in the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. Last week, the Eagles (18-7-2, 11-3-2 Hockey East) lost on the road to BU, 6-0, in their only skate prior to the 34th Annual Beanpot.
BC squared off against No. 7/8 Northeastern, who fell one spot in both ratings sets following a 3-2 loss to BU, in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday night. The skate ended in a 1-1 tie, with NU advancing by shootout, 2-0.
The Eagles will host unranked Providence on Saturday, Feb. at 2 p.m., before meeting No. 8/7 Harvard in the consolation round of the Beanpot on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Walter Brown Arena. The Crimson picked up roads wins versus Brown, 3-0, and Yale, 8-0, last week to move up one place in each poll.
Wisconsin remained No. 1 following a pair of close wins against Bemidji St. The Badgers edged the Beavers, 3-2, in overtime and escaped with a 1-0 win the next day.
Minnesota posted 6-3 and 4-1 victories over Minnesota St. to swap Cornell for No. 2 in both polls. The Big Red dropped to No. 3 after beating St. Lawrence, 6-4, and losing to Clarkson, 5-3.
The rankings both advanced Mercyhurst to No. 5, despite not playing. The Lakers benefitted from No. 6North Dakota’s split on the road at Ohio State. The Sioux faltered, 6-2, but rebounded with a 5-2 win the next day.
No. 9 Minnesota-Duluth and No. 10 Dartmouth retained their rankings from the previous week with weekend sweeps over conference opponents.
