ORONO, Maine - Boston College men's hockey fans can follow the Eagles - Maine Black Bears game at Alfond Arena on Friday, Jan. 20 beginning at 7 p.m., via the cover it live blog. Fans can submit comments during the game via the blog as well.
The teams are meeting for the first time since top-ranked BC earned a 5-1 home win over #20 Maine on Nov. 4 and are playing against one another inside Alfond Arena for the first time since a 4-1 Maine victory on Jan. 16, 2011. Friday's game can be heard live on FM 98.5 The Sports Hub while Saturday's game - a 4:07 puck drop - will be televised by the New England Sports Network.
BC is tied for first place in the Hockey East regular-season standings with a 10-4-1 conference mark. Maine enters this weekend series in fourth place at 7-7-2. Following this weekend's trip, BC will have concluded league regular-season series with five teams - Maine, Northeastern (3-0-0), UMass-Lowell (2-1-0), Boston University (1-2-0) and Massachusetts (1-2-0). The Eagles have won five straight league series with Maine. BC last lost a league series to Maine when the Black Bears won all three match-ups during the 2005-06 campaign.
Boston College enters this weekend's two-game series having been held to two goals or fewer in each of the last six games. The team is 2-3-1 during this stretch. It opened the 2011-12 campaign 8-1-0 and averaging 4.6 goals per game ... the team is 0-for-13 on the power play in the last three games and 3-for-26 in the last six games (11.5 percent). It has gone 16-for-16 on the penalty kill in the last four games to improve its kill rate to 89.2 percent this winter (99-for-111). That mark is a league best and ranks second in the country. It has scored six shorthanded goals and has given up six shorthanded goals this season
