Women's Basketball Defeated By Florida State, 68-59

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Kristen Doherty led the Eagles with 17 points, as Boston College (5-13, 0-5) lost to ACC foe, Florida State (11-9, 3-3), 68-59, on Thursday evening at Conte Forum.
Doherty also tied her season-high in rebounds with nine boards. Sophomore Tessah Holt added to the offensive effort with 16 points. FSU's Alexa Deluzio went 6-9 from beyond the arc and scored 28 points to help lift the Seminoles to victory.
FSU won the tip, but the Eagles struck first and took an early 5-2 lead. The Seminoles quickly retaliated, scoring four consecutive points to take a 6-5 advantage with 17:50 left in the half. BC used a 6-2 run, anchored by a layup and a jumper from Doherty to give the Eagles an 11-9 lead with 14:31 left in the half. FSU followed with eight unanswered points to make it 19-13 with 10:55 left in the half. Sophomore Tiffany Ruffin converted on two free throws and junior Kerri Shields (season-high five assists) sunk a long two to help the Eagles close the gap and pull within two.
The teams traded baskets until Holt nailed a three-point jumper as the shot clock expired to tie the game at 26 with 4:20 left in the half. The teams were tied again at 29 less than a minute later after threes from Natasha Howard and Holt. Doherty gave the Eagles a slim, 32-31 advantage with 1:51 to go, but Cierra Bravard finished a three-point play to send the teams to the locker room, with the Seminoles leading the Eagles, 34-32.
Sophomore Katie Zenevitch and Doherty each knocked down a three coming out of halftime to help the Eagles pull within one, down just 39-38, with 17:37 to play. FSU used a 9-2 run to take a 48-40 lead with just under 10 minutes to go in the game. Shields sunk a deep three, Doherty hit a jumper and Holt finished a layup to help the Eagles make it a two-possession game, down 51-47 with 8:13 to play. Florida State pulled away using a 13-6 run, capped by a deep three from Deluzio, to take a double-digit lead, up 64-53 with less than four minutes to play. Holt scored four points in the final minutes of play, but the Eagles could not overcome the deficit, falling 68-59 to Florida State.
