Jan. 17, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – After defeating New Hampshire at home, 4-2, and blanking Vermont on the road, 3-0, the Boston College women’s ice hockey team retained its No. 4 ranking in the USCHO poll, but fell to No. 5 on the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll this week.
Excluding two Beanpot contests, Boston College (16-6-1, 9-2-1 Hockey East) will face league play the rest of the season. This week BC hosts Northeastern on Tuesday and Providence on Friday. Both skates are scheduled for 7 p.m.
After a week hiatus from the No. 1 standing, Wisconsin move back atop the rankings with a win, 8-2, and a tie, 4-4, at North Dakota. Minnesota, who had been No. 1, moved back to No. 2 after a loss, 4-2, and win, 3-0, at Minnesota-Duluth.
Unchanged were No. 3 Cornell, No. 6 North Dakota, No. 7 Northeastern, and No. 8 Minnesota-Duluth.
Despite winning both of its games and picking up more votes, Boston College swapped places with Mercyhurst on the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The No. 6 Lakers topped Niagara in overtime, 5-4, and again in regulation, 4-2, the following day. The Eagles were ranked fourth for seven consecutive weeks.
Harvard moved up to No. 9 with wins over Union, 2-0, and Rensselaer, 5-3. Dartmouth reclaimed a spot in the polls by defeating the same teams, 3-2 and 4-2, respectively.
