January 10, 2012 | Women's Hockey
Jan. 10, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College women’s ice hockey team retained its No. 4 ranking in the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. The Eagles opened the 2012 calendar year with a loss to St. Lawrence, 2-1, and victory over Clarkson, 3-2.
With its non-conference schedule wrapped up, Boston College will begin a gauntlet of Hockey East play. The remaining portion of the Eagles’ regular-season slate features 11 league games and the Beanpot, which begins with a matchup against No. 7 Northeastern on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
There is a new No. 1 for the first time this season. Coming off a victory, 1-0, and a tie, 3-3, Minnesota swapped Wisconsin for the highest ranking in both polls.
Spots three through seven remained stable: No. 3 Cornell, No. 4 Boston College, No. 5 Mercyhurst, No. 6 North Dakota and No. 7 Northeastern.
The remaining movement jostled spots eight through 10. Despite not competing, Minnesota-Duluth moved into the No. 8 slot on both polls. Bemidji State split a series with Minnesota State, rising one spot to No. 9 with USA Hockey, but falling one to the same position with USCHO. Harvard dropped to No. 10, after going 1-1-1 against Connecticut, Princeton and Quinnipiac, respectively.
Boston College competes tonight at 7p.m. against New Hampshire at home.
