No. 8 Field Hockey Prepares for No. 9 Duke

The No. 8 Boston College field hockey squad is back at home after three consecutive road games. The Eagles will host the No. 9 Duke University Blue Devils on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) game will be held at BC's Newton Sports Complex.

Boston College Team Notes
• BC heads into this weekend's games with a 7-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the ACC.
• The Eagles went 1-1 in a pair of road games last weekend. BC downed ACC foe Virginia, 5-4, in double-overtime on Sept. 23, before falling to American, 2-1, on Sept. 25.
• The Eagles were ranked No. 8 in the nation in this week's NFHCA poll.
• Boston College is currently nationally ranked in the top 10 for four different team stats categories. The team is ranked sixth in assists per game (3.2), seventh in points per game (10.8), eighth in goals per game (3.8) and 10th in scoring average (3.63).
• As a team, BC has outshot its opponents, 182-93, and forced more corners, 75-50.
• BC has been unstoppable after scoring first, as the squad holds a 5-0 record when it strikes first.
Boston College Individual Notes
• Senior forward Courtney Tavener was named Co-ACC Player of the Week for week five of the 2011 season, after posting a hat trick in the squad's double-overtime victory against Virginia. Tavener, who is currently tied for first on the team in total points (19), also earned recognition on the WomensFieldHockey.com Honor Roll this week.
• Sophomore Paige Norris has become an important playmaker for the Eagles, as she leads the team with nine assists. Norris' mark also leads the ACC and is seventh in the nation.
• Senior Carla Tamer leads the team with eight goals and has tallied a team-best-tying 19 total points through eight games.
• Sophomore Chapin Duke notched the lone goal for BC at American, marking her seventh on the season. She is currently second on the team with 14 total points.
• Freshman Emma Plasteras notched two assists against Virginia, good for the first of her career.
• Adding to the offensive threat for BC is grad student Anna Wetherall. She is fourth on the team in goals (4) and points (9).
Scouting Duke
• Duke is currently 5-4 overall, and 1-1 in ACC in 2011.
• The Blue Devils will look to end a three-game skid on Friday and earn their first win since Sept. 11.
• Duke's two most recent games were decided in double-overtime fashion. DU suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of No. 1 Old Dominion on Sept. 18 before dropping at 1-0 decision against No. 2 North Carolina on Sept. 24.
• Despite last weekend's loss against UNC, the Blue Devils stayed at No. 9 in this week's polls.
• Emmie Le Marchand and Devon Gagliardi lead the team's offensive effort. Le Marchand has a team-best 16 points (7 goals, 2 assists), while Gagliardi has nine (4 goals, 1 assist).
Series History
• The all-time series between the Eagles and the Blue Devils is tied, 6-6. If Boston College wins on Friday, it would mark the first time ever that the Eagles lead the series between the two schools.
• BC has won the past two annual meetings against Duke to knot the series at six a side. Last season, the Eagles earned a hard-fought, 1-0 victory against the Blue Devils when the teams met on Oct. 2.
