Amherst, Mass. - The Boston College women's cross country team scored five members in the top six and senior Jillian King opened her 2011 season in winning fashion to help BC claim the UMass Invitational team title on 17 points. The Scotia, N.Y. native paced the field of 75 with a 17:21.41 clip and four Eagles set personal records over the five-kilometer course.
Junior Bridget Dahlberg annihilated her PR, hitting the tape on the heels of her teammate with a 17:21.70, more than 30 second faster than her previous best. Graduate Hope Krause was also at the top of her game, coming in right behind at 17:22.02 for third overall.
"The team looked very good today," Head Coach Randy Thomas commented. "Jillian, Bridget and Hope were very much under control out in front of the field. Elizabeth O'Brien was very steady throughout and I saw an excellent varsity effort from Brittany."
After Karen Roa broke up the Boston College sweep by taking fourth, in 17:36.01, O'Brien came down the stretch with the third PR of day for the Eagles. The junior crossed the line with her fastest 5K in 11 months (17:52.37) for fifth place.
In her first collegiate meet, freshman Brittany Winslow took sixth with an 18:00.83 showing, halting the scoring for BC at 17 team points.
Boston College will break until the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Saturday, Sept. 30. The meet is slated for 10 a.m.
