Chestnut Hill, MA -
The Boston College women's soccer team won the battle of shots taken but could not put one in the back of the net as the Eagles tied Syracuse, 0-0, in double-overtime in front of 455 fans at the Newton Soccer Field on Thursday night. No. 12 Boston College is now 2-0-2, while the Orange improved to 1-1-1.
The Eagles had just three shots at the half as Syracuse bottled up the offense with relentless pressure on the front line. BC's best chance came in the first minute when Kate McCarthy's header off a Kristie Mewis corner kick hit the post. In the second half Boston College outshot Syracuse, 10-1, but could not connect.
The Eagles had 11 corner kicks, seven in the second half.
Senior Julia Bouchelle had two chances in the air which went wide, including a one with six minutes to play. Minutes before Bouchelle's header, Mewis had a penalty kick which the Syracuse goalkeeper, Brittany Anghel, guessed correctly and made the stop of the night. She finished with four saves.
The Eagles had one last chance in regulation off a corner kick with under a minute to play. Freshman Casey Morrison's one-timer off a corner kick sailed high over the crossbar.
In overtime Boston College had two solid chances but could not convert. BC had 11 corner kicks to four for Syracuse. BC outshot the Orange, 14-4.
