Eight Eagles to Participate in USA Hockey Festival

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Eight current members and alumnae of the Boston College women's ice hockey are set to participate in the 2011 USA Hockey Women's National Festival at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. from August 10-20.
Representing the Maroon and Gold are former standouts Allie Thunstrom '10, Molly Schaus '11 and Kelli Stack '11; current stars Blake Bolden '13, Mary Restuccia '12 and Taylor Wasylk '14; as well as newcomers Alex Carpenter '15 and Megan Miller `15.
“I’m extremely proud of these players who have given themselves a chance to compete at the next level," Boston College Head Coach Katie King said. "Their hard work and dedication to the sport of hockey is paying off and they’re being rewarded for it. It’s exciting for Boston College to have so many involved with the USA Hockey program and I wish them well at the tryout!”
The Eagles are among 79 athletes vying for a spot on the 2011 U.S. Women's Select Team and Under-18 Select Teams. Select Team members will compete in the IIHF Eights Nations Tournament in Viermäki, Finland from August 24-31. The U-18 Select Team will meet Canada in a three-game series beginning on August 18 in Rockland, Ontario.
The participants have been grouped into four teams - Red 
White Blue U18 Gray - for practices and games. USA Hockey will announce the final roster for the 2011 U-18 Select Team on Monday, August 15, and the Select Team on Friday, August 19.
Schaus and Stack are two of 19 members of the U.S. Women's National Team (WNT) that won its third straight gold medal at the IIHF Women's World Championship this past April. The 2011 NCAA All-Americans also make up part of the 14 athletes remaining from the silver medal squad at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Thunstrom, a three-time Hockey East All-Star as an Eagle, and Restuccia, a 2010-11 Hockey East All-Star, have previously participated in Festivals in 2007 and 2008, respectively, earning their way on to Select Teams.
Bolden has been a member of the national camp since she was 14 years old. She helped the Red, White and Blue win gold as part of the U-18 National Team at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships. Wasylk also captured gold in 2009 and claimed silver at the 2010 U-18 World Championships with Team USA.
Carpenter, a center out of North Reading, Mass., and Miller, a goaltender from Long Grove, Ill., boast national team experience as well. They were key figures in leading the U.S. WNT U-18 program to a gold medal at the IIHF Women's U-18 World Championship.
