WXC Ranked 18th in Preseason USTFCCCA Poll

Chestnut Hill, Mass. -The Boston College women's cross country team was positioned at No. 18 in the preseason coaches' poll for the 2011 NCAA Division I season announced the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.
BC earned a 19th place team finish on 432 team points - its best since 2005 - at the NCAA Championship in 2010 and returned to the Heights with its first All-American accolade in five seasons. The Eagles took fourth in the ACC Championship and reclaimed the New England Championship in 2010.
BC returns six of seven student-athletes from the championship meet squad: graduates Caroline King and Hope Krause; senior Jillian King; and juniors Elizabeth Hynes, Elizabeth O'Brien and Allison Stasiuk.
Individually, C. King earned the All-American distinction with a 30th place finish at the national meet. The captain was joined was J. King and Krause on the All-Northeast Region team after the trio completed the course in the top 15. The King sisters also stood upon the All-ACC podium after submitting sixth and seventh place finishes.
The 2010 roster was also decorated for its academics. The entire lineup of 27 student-athletes carried a collective grade point average of 3.42 and was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Both J. King and Krause were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team as individuals for achieving a gpa of at least 3.25 and finishing in the region's top 15. Additionally, Hynes, C. King, J. King, Krause and Madeline Wallace were named to the All-ACC Academic Team and more than 25 members were listed on the ACC Honor Roll.
The Atlantic Coast leads the country with six school ranked in the women's top 30. Defending conference champion and national runner-up Florida State is No. 6, while Duke (9), North Carolina (12), Virginia (17), Boston College and NC State (21) round out the group. The BIG EAST, Big Ten and PAC-12 each have five teams in the poll.
The NCAA Regional Championship will be contested on Saturday, November 12. Teams earning bids to the title race will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship on Monday, November 21.
