Newton, MA - The Boston College women's soccer team won its first game of the season with a 1-0 win over non-conference foe Fairfield on Sunday afternoon in front of 347 fans at the Newton Soccer Field.
The Eagles are now 1-0-1 on the season, while Fairfield is now 0-1-0.
Boston College junior Alicia Blose made her first shot count against Fairfield. A native of Mill Valley, California, Blose entered the game in the 25th minute to play in the midfield. Minutes later, freshman Rachel Davitt and Blose put together a nice give-and-go. Davitt dropped the ball back for Blose, who one-timed her shot from just inside the box to give BC a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute of the game.
It would be Blose's first career goal and Davitt recorded her first collegiate point with the assist.
Boston College had two great chances in the second half. Davitt sent a cross to the near post and Victoria DiMartino's flick hit the near post in the 70th minute. One of the prettiest runs of the day came from senior defender Alaina Beyar. The New York native made a run to the corner. Kristie Mewis found her and Beyar sent a low cross into the box, which Julia Bouchelle flicked towards the goal but Fairfield's goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau made the save.
BC held the edge in shots, 16-4. The Eagles also had six corner kicks to zero for Fairfield. The Eagles goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni picked up her first shutout of the season with two saves. Boudreau had five saves.
