Football Holds Situation Scrimmage On Sunday

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (Sun., Aug. 21, 2011) - Sophomore PK Nate Freese connected on a 52-yard field goal attempt to conclude Boston College football's third scrimmage of its preseason training camp on Sunday evening at Alumni Stadium.
The scrimmage featured six game-simulated fourth-quarter situations in which the offense and defense squared off with limited time on the clock as well as a limited number of timeouts.
Sophomore quarterback Chase Rettig completed 11-of-22 passing attempts for 180 yards, one touchdown and one interception to lead the first-team offense while junior linebacker Nick Clancy highlighted the team's defensive effort, recording five tackles - including four tackles for loss - and one pass break-up.
"I like playing inside the ball, being able to move left and right," Clancy said after the scrimmage. "It frees me up to make plays. I don't know what it was, but when I was lining up, I was just feeling comfortable."
Rettig's touchdown was a 44-yard strike that split the hash marks to wide receiver Alex Amidon who finished with three receptions for a scrimmage-high 91 yards.
Sophomore tailback Rolandan Finch carried the ball 13 times for 44 yards while Andre Williams recorded seven rushes for 42 yards, including an 18-yard gain in the scrimmage's opening series, and Tahj Kimble rushed five times for 13 yards. Williams participation was cut short after seven carries because of an ankle sprain.
Junior wide receiver Colin Larmond, Jr. registered three receptions for 48 yards, sophomore Bobby Swigert caught three passes for 22 yards while tight end Chris Pantale and freshman Spiffy Evans also caught multiple passes.
In addition to Clancy, sophomore linebacker Andre Lawrence also registered five tackles while sophomore DB C.J. Jones recorded four. Junior end Max Holloway tallied a pair of sacks and linebackers Luke Kuechly, Jake Sinkovec and Will Thompson all finished the scrimmage with three tackles apiece.
Freese also connected from 27 yards while his opening attempt of the scrimmage (from 39 yards) missed.
There are 13 days to season's kickoff when Boston College hosts Northwestern in its season opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 12 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
