Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Edgard De Gama E Silva has joined the staff of the Boston College volleyball program as an assistant coach announced by Head Coach Chris Campbell on Friday.
"I am extremely excited to be able to add a coach of DeGa's caliber to the coaching staff of BC Volleyball," Campbell stated. "His background with the Brazilian national team and with elite NCAA programs is an asset that will pay immediate dividends as we travel the path to success in the ACC and nationally."
Silva, who goes by DeGa, comes to The Heights after three years as an assistant coach at Auburn University. The newest addition to the Eagles staff will assist in practice and match planning efforts, recruiting, video and statistical analysis and community service initiatives.
Prior to guiding the Tigers to their first-ever NCAA appearance in 2010, DeGa constructed a collegiate coaching background at Washington State, North Idaho Women's College and Eastern Washington.
Over the past seven years, DeGa has conducted Brazil Gold Volleyball Camps in the Washington area and served as the technical director and coach of the Skagit Volleyball Club (2004-06).
From 2001-04, the native of Curitiba, Brazil was an assistant for the Rexona Volleyball Club, a professional women's team in Brazil. Before being appointed an assistant, DeGa simultaneously interned with RVC from 1997-2000 and the world powerhouse Brazilian National Team from 1998-2000.
