King Advances to 800m National Semifinal

Bloomington, Ind. - Caroline King won heat two of the NCAA 800-meter quarterfinal with the second fastest half mile in Boston College track and field history (2:04.79) and will represent Boston College at the NCAA Championship in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, June 8 at 6 p.m. (CT).
King earned the top seed heading into the quarterfinal - having run 2:06.32 - and drew a fifth lane staring position. The inner lanes went out fast and forced King to fight through the pack to get position on the first straightaway.
The ACC Champion took control at 200 meters and guided the field into the bell lap at a minute and change, while being chased by North Carolina's Tasha Stanley. The Tar Heel overtook King as the bend ended and the Eagle maintained position on her shoulder at the 600-meter mark. The Scotia, N.Y. native made her move and battled Stanley down the final straightaway to record the victory in a personal record of 2:04.79.
Also qualifying out of heat were Stanley, who led the chase in 2:05.42, and Chelsea Cox of Georgetown following in 2:05.72.
King's time ranks third among athletes advancing out the East Regional. Kate Grace of Yale took the top honor with a 2:03.41 clip, while Chanelle Price of Tennesee was the only other runner to crack 2:05, submitting a 2:04.54.
The captain advances to the national championship for the first time in her career. The Maroon and Gold will be featured in the 800-meter run at NCAAs for the third consecutive year. Caitlin Bailey qualified for the meet in each of the past two seasons.
