No. 46 Tennis Falls to Fifth-Ranked Miami

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The ITA 46th-ranked Boston College women's tennis team was defeated, 7-0, by No. 5 Miami on Friday afternoon at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
"The result doesn't show it, but I thought that was the some of the best doubles play we've had all year," Head Coach Nigel Bentley stated.
BC (7-11, 2-6 ACC) led late in all three doubles matches, but Miami (16-4, 8-1 ACC) demonstrated why it is the fifth ranked team in the nation by coming back to win the doubles point.
Sophomores Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev were the first to fall, getting topped, 8-6, by Melissa Bolivar and Gabriela Mejia on court two.
Senior Katharine Attwell and junior Katarina Gajic's loss to Danielle Mills and Brittany Dubins by a similar score sealed the doubles point for the Canes.
Meanwhile, junior Erina Kikuchi and freshman Veronica Corning gave 11th ranked Bianca Eichkorn and Anna Bartenstein a run on the first court, before dropping a 9-7 decision.
The Eagles continued to give the Hurricanes trouble throughout the day, but claimed its fifth straight conference with wins on all six singles courts.
Kelleher fell to eighth-ranked singles player Eichkorn, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.
Kikuchi drew 48th-ranked Bartenstein on court No. 2 and fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
No. 113 Gajic rebounded in a first set loss, 6-2, to No. 109 Kayla Rizzolo with a win, 6-4, in the second. The last matched to be decided concluded with a third set score of 6-3.
On No. 6 singles, Attwell fought off Bolivar in the second as well. The Eagle had fallen, 6-4, in the first, came back to win the second, 6-3, but fell to the Cane, 6-3, in the final set.
The Eagles conclude their home stand with a match against No. 31 Florida State on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Weather permitting, the contest will be held at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
