Chestnut Hill, MA- Boston College's sophomore Jessie Coffield was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending on Monday, April 4.
Coffield helped lead the No. 17 Eagles to a 12-6 victory, over then ranked No. 7 Virginia. This is the first Player of the Week honor for the BC lacrosse program since joining the ACC in 2005.
Coffield, from Alexandria, Va., limited Virginia's top offensive threat and points leader, Julie Gardner to zero goals and one assist for the game. Prior to Saturdays contest, Gardner had 20 goals and 18 assists. Coffield's efforts helped BC to hold the Cavaliers to their lowest goal output of the season.
Sophomore Brooke Blue was named Inside Lacrosse Nike Player of the Week for her efforts in the Virginia victory. Blue, a native of Bethesda, Md., scored three goals on three shots for the Eagles.
The victory was the first ACC win of the season for BC and the first time the Eagles have beaten Virginia since joining the league in 2005.
The Eagles look to stay on track Saturday, April 9, as they host Duke at 1:00 for their last ACC regular season game.
