Chestnut Hill, MA- The No. 14 Boston College Eagles earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ACC tournament held in Cary, NC. The Eagles will face No. 5 seed Virginia Tech, Thursday April 21, at 5:00 p.m. This marks the highest seeding for the Eagles in the ACC since 2008. Heading into Thursday's matchup, the Eagles have an overall record of 10-5 and 1-4 in the ACC.
The Eagles are coming off a 20-8 win over UVM on Sunday, in which Brooke Blue and Brittany Wilton scored five goals.
Boston College, Virginia and Virginia Tech finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the standings, yet the Eagles pulled out with the No. 4 seed after following the league's seeding tie-breaker procedures. All three teams finished 1-1 against each other, with Boston College losing in Blacksburg to the Hokies 12-11, and all fell at the hands of conference opponents Maryland, Duke and North Carolina. Thus, the ties were ultimately determined by goal differentials, including a maximum positive-five for any one game.
The No. 1 seed in the tournament went to top-ranked Maryland with an overall record of 15-0 and 5-0 in league play. The Terrapins earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Boston College/Virginia Tech game, on Friday, April 22. Duke and North Caroline received the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the tournament, while Virginia earned the No. 6 spot.
