Storrs, Conn. - With a seven-point victory over Connecticut, the Boston College men's tennis team swept its second consecutive match on Thursday, April 14.
Freshman Michael McGinnis paired with junior Alex Skinner put the Eagles (7-15, 0-9 ACC) in position to take the double point with a win, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles.
Down in the tiebreaker on courts one and three, BC faced multiple match points, but emerged with wins on excellent hitting to take all three doubles matches. Winning in dramatic fashion were junior Akash Muppidi and sophomore Billy Grokenberger, 9-8(7), at No. 1 doubles and senior pairing Adam Davison and Erik Kreutzer, 9-8(6), on No. 3 doubles.
The Eagles tallied five straight set wins. Muppidi downed A. Marcus, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles for his third consecutive victory.
Kreutzer picked up his win, 6-3, 6-2, over J. Yoon on No. 3 singles, while freshman Jonathan Raude defeated D. Adams, 6-4, 6-4, on court four.
At No. 5 singles, Grokenberger made quick work of R. Carr, 6-2, 6-2, and McGinnis closed out W. Lin, 7-5, 6-2, on court six.
Skinner faced a tie breaker in singles play. After dropping the first set, 6-3, he responded to take the second by the same score and went on for the win, 10-8, in the third.
The Eagles wrap up their conference schedule this weekend. BC hosts Wake Forest on Friday, April 15 at 4 p.m. and NC State on Sunday at 11 a.m. Boston College concludes the regular season with a match against Boston University on Sunday at 4 p.m.
