Track & Field Takes Second At UMass Invitational

Amherst, Mass. - The Boston College women's track and field team accumulated 145.5 points to claim second place at the UMass Invitational on Saturday at the UMass Track and Field Complex. The Eagles won four events and registered a pair of the nation's fastest times of the season.
Caroline King led BC in a 1-2-3 sweep of the 800-meter run, posting a personal record time of 2:05.43. The half-mile clip stands as the fifth fastest mark in the country and ranks third on BC's all-time list.
Caitlin Bailey's 2:07-flat earned a second place finish and the nation's 17th-fasted time of 2011, while Erin McKenna finished in third in the field of 52 with an outdoor PR of 2:11.74.
Jillian King powered the Eagles to a dominating performance the 1,500-meter run. A 4:22.46 clip from the Scotia, N.Y. native ranks as the 14th-swiftest time in the country and fourth in the BC record book.
Coming in second at her first attempt at the 1,500-meter was Hope Krause in 4:32.57. Siobhan Breagy broke her personal record to take third in 4:32.99. In fourth was Samantha Gawrych at 4:38.50. Alanna Poretta took seventh in 4:40.30 in her first 1,500-meter race as well.
A time of 11:06.82 enabled Bridget Dahlberg to claim her first win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Morgan Mueller (11:25.63) and Jacqueline Pollack (11:39.76) delivered huge PRs to take fourth and sixth, respectively.
Elizabeth O'Brien topped a field of 40 in the 5,000-meter run. The Chappaqua, N.Y. product led the Eagles with a 17:21.86 clip, as seven of the top 11 finishers hailed from BC.
Rounding out the group were Allison Stasiuk with a personal best of 17:38.93 in third, Jessica Driscoll at 17:44.96 in fourth, Sarah Lord crossed in 17:59.85 (8th), Heather Garcia took ninth in 18:06.71, Christy Titus finished in 10th at 18:08.91 and Moira Kenny was 11th at 18:13.34.
Casey Hsiung turned in a second place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.62) and third in the 200-meters with a personal record of 25.83.
Rory Cellucci and Margaret O'Dea also doubled up in the events. In the 100, Cellucci was fifth (12.78) and O'Dea was sixth (12.82) out of 28 contestants. In the 200, O'Dea was 8th in 26.44 and Cellucci was 10th at 26.72.
Margaret Stapleton-Smith crushed her personal record in the hammer throw, submitted a mark of 40.43 meters (132-8.0 ft.) for fifth place.
Taylor Aizenstadt led BC in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters (5-3.0 ft.) to tie for fourth place on attempts. Georgette Asfoura cleared 1.55 meters (5-1.0 ft.) for eighth place.
In the relays, BC took second in the 4x100 at 49.11 and third in the 4x400 with a time of 3:54.95.
BC will return to action April 16 at the Northeastern Solomon Invitational in Dedham, Mass.
