College Park, Md. - The Boston College softball team was topped, 4-3, of a 10-inning contest against Maryland on Sunday afternoon at Robert E. Taylor Park. Freshman Tory Speer hit her seventh home run of the year, driving in two runs on a 2-for-4 effort for the Eagles (10-22, 5-6 ACC).

Junior Morgan Kidd (1-5) shouldered the loss for BC, throwing 3.1 innings of relief, striking out a batter, walking two and allowing one run on a single hit.

Ashley Czechner (11-1) earned the win for Maryland (27-12, 5-3 ACC). The Terp pitched four innings, struck out five batters and gave up one hit.

Boston College scored one run in the first. Sophomore Nicole D'Argento hit a lead-off single to third and advanced to third when junior Ali Lynette-Krech reached on an error by the Terrapins' first baseman. Junior Brittany Wilkins grounder to second, plated D'Argento for the lead, 1-0.

Maryland put up three runs in the third. Marisha Branson doubled to right to lead-off and came around on Kathy McLaughlin's double to left. A sac bunt advanced McLaughlin to third, but Sara Acosta homered to give the Terps the lead, 3-1.

Speer's home run tied the game in the sixth.

Both sides went scoreless until the 10th inning. Hanafin led off with a double to center and advanced to third on a sac bunt. A walk put runners on the corners, but Beards plated Hanfin on a sac fly for Maryland's third walk-off in as many games for the win.

The Eagles will host three opponents this week. Massachusetts is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13 at 4 p.m. A doubleheader against Harvard is slated for Thursday at 3 p.m. Conference play will resume against Florida State on Saturday at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for all games through GameTracker.
