Boston College senior Kelli Stack has earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors and freshman forward Melissa Bizzari has garnered league Rookie of the Week recognition, according to an announcement made on Monday.
Stack, who was announced a finalist for the 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award along with teammate Molly Schaus last Thursday, captured Hockey East Player of the Year honors on Friday, scored the team's game-winning goal in overtime against Providence on Saturday and captured Hockey East Tournament MVP accolades following the program's first league title on Sunday.
The Brooklyn Heights, Ohio, native, totaled three points - one goal and two assists - in wins over Providence (3/5) and Northeastern (3/6) en route to tournament MVP and league player-of-the-week honors.
Boston College's all-time leading scorer with 207 career points, Stack has registered 34 goals and 56 points through 34 games this winter. She ranks third among all players in collegiate hockey in goals per game (1.00).
Bizzari, a Stowe, Vt., resident, also registered three points - one goal and two assists - in wins over the Friars and Huskies. The freshman forward scored Boston College's first goal - at 6:35 of the third period - and notched the primary assist on classmate Taylor Wasylk's tying goal at 14:02 of the third period in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Providence, then assisted on BC's third goal (also scored by Wasylk) in Sunday's 3-1 win over Northeastern in the league title game.
Bizzari also scored both BC goals in a 2-1 win at New Hampshire (2/20) in the regular-season finale the week before and has tallied three goals and five points in the team's last three games. She has totaled 21 points - 10 goals and 11 assists - in 35 games in 2010-11.
With its victory over Northeastern for the league tournament championship, Boston College improved to 23-6-6 overall, including a 4-0-1 record in its last five games and a 9-1-2 record in its last 12 games. An automatic qualifier for the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Eagles earned the No. 4 seed and will host Western College Hockey Association opponent Minnesota on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m.
