Boston College junior Cam Atkinson, who recorded three goals and four points in two league wins over New Hampshire over the weekend, has earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors, according to a conference announcement made on Monday.
Atkinson scored twice - the team's second and third goals - in a 4-0 home win over New Hampshire on Friday (3/4), then notched two points - one goal and one assist - in a 4-3 Hockey East regular-season title-clinching victory over the Wildcats on Saturday (3/5).
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward lifted the Eagles to a 2-0 lead on his fourth shorthanded goal (the team has 12 shorthanded goals this season) at 9:50 of the second period during Friday's victory.
Atkinson has 27 goals in 34 games this winter. He ranks third in the country in goals per game and second among national leaders in shorthanded scores.
Boston College clinched the 2010-11 Hockey East regular-season title - its fifth under coach Jerry York and record-11th in program history - with consecutive wins over New Hampshire and will host eighth-seeded Massachusetts in Hockey East quarterfinal play this weekend. The Eagles and Minutemen will face off in a best-of-three game series Friday, March 11 through Sunday, March 13 at Kelley Rink. All games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
