Carolyn Swords Named To All-ACC Academic Team

Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College senior Carolyn Swords was named to the ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner John Swofford.
ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. The award is based 60 percent on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishment.
A total of 18 student-athletes from 10 of the league's 12 schools were named to the All-ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team. To be eligible for consideration for the academic squad, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
This is Swords second consecutive season being named to the team. Swords, an All-ACC first team selection, is coming off a 27 points and 12 rebound performance in the ACC Tournament against NC State. It was her 14th double-double of the season and 44th in her career. With the 27 point effort, Swords became the second all-time scorer in the BC program. She now has 1,978 career points along with 1,117 career rebounds.
Swords' is the third leading scorer in the ACC with a 17.6 average and first in rebounding at 9.0. Swords' currently leads the ACC and country in field goal percentage with a sizzling 72.2 percent.
A native of Sudbury, MA, Swords earned the Weaver-James-Corrigan 2011 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship this season. She is a three-time All-ACC honor roll honoree and a three-time Athletic Director's Award for Academic Excellence recipient.
