CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - A four-goal weekend, including a game-winner and a hat trick, earned Danielle Welch Hockey East Pure Hockey Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Monday, February 7. This is Welch's second league award, and her first this season.
The Hastings, Minn. native tallied her first score of the weekend on Friday, February 4 against Connecticut. BC battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force an overtime period. One and a half minutes into the extra period, Welch tipped in the game-winning goal to give the Eagles a 3-2 win over the Huskies. It was her second game-winning goal this season.
Welch was on fire again at Providence on Sunday, February 6, scoring three of BC's goals and recording an assist on the fourth in the Eagles' 4-2 win. She struck early against the Friars, tallying two goals before the end of the opening frame to give BC an early 2-0 lead. The Friars answered with a second period power-play goal and an even-strength tally in the third, but Welch notched her third goal at 8:14 in the final frame to gain back the lead. She also assisted on Melissa Bizzari's goal to end the game.
The junior forward has 20 points this season - eight goals and 12 assists.
Next up for Welch and the Eagles is the opening round of the 33rd Annual Women's Beanpot, hosted by BC this year. They will face Boston University at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8.
