Women's Hockey Preview: Connecticut and Providence

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The seventh-ranked Boston College Eagles will host the Connecticut Huskies at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4. The Huskies hold a slight lead in the all-time series, 12-11-7.
On Sunday, February 6 the Eagles will face the ninth-ranked Providence Friars at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m. The Friars lead the all-time series 33-10-2.
LAST TIME vs. CONNECTICUT (October 31, 2010)
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Coming off a Saturday afternoon 2-2 tie at Connecticut, the Boston College women's hockey team rallied to defeat the Huskies at home 3-0 on Sunday, October 31.
The Eagles got off to an early lead with a short-handed goal by Kelli Stack who came in hard from the right side to put it past Huskies goalie Alexandra Garcia.
The Huskies came out strong to start the second period, pressuring BC's defense early. The Eagles kept up with the increased intensity and eventually regained control of the puck, firing off 12 shots. Finally Blake Bolden was able to connect off a pass from Stack on a power play at 19:41 to end the period up by two.
With two minutes left the Huskies pulled their goalie and Danielle Welch was able to sink the puck into the back of the empty net at 19:39. Stack assisted on the final goal.
LAST TIME vs. PROVIDENCE (January 28, 2011)
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's hockey team rallied after a loss at Providence last week to defeat the Friars 3-1 at Kelley Rink on Friday, January 28. Kelli Stack scored two goals in the win, with Mary Restuccia registering the third.
Providence lit the lamp first, as Ashley Cottrell slid the puck past BC goalie Molly Schaus from the post off a pass from Jennifer Friedman at 7:05 in the opening frame.
The Eagles responded at 16:11 to tie the score 1-1. Stack edged the puck away from Providence during a faceoff and took it right to the goal, tallying the tying shot from the right. Stack scored again in the second period, deflecting a shot from Katelyn Kurth, originated by Alison Szlosek at 11:15 to give BC the go-ahead lead.
With under two minutes remaining, Restuccia tallied the Eagles' final goal on a breakaway to end the contest 3-1.
EAGLES SWEEP HOCKEY EAST WEEKEND
The Eagles picked up four Hockey East point with two wins this weekend, 3-1 against Providence on Friday, January 28 and 2-1 against Northeastern on Sunday, January 30.
On Friday, Providence lit the lamp first, but Stack edged the puck away from Providence during a faceoff and took it right to the goal to tie the game. She scored again in the second period to give BC the go-ahead lead. With under two minutes remaining, Restuccia tallied the Eagles' final goal on a breakaway to end the contest 3-1.
On Sunday, after a evenly matched first period, Northeastern broke open the scoring in the second but the Huskies' lead didn't last long. At 10:13, Kelli Stack picked up a pass from Danielle Welch and fired it past Northeastern goaltender Leah Sulyma to tie the score. Stack then picked up a pass from Molly Schaus and skated the length of the rink for a short-handed goal at 13:10 to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead and eventual win.
STACK TOPS IN HOCKEY EAST
Four goals in two Hockey East games this past weekend earned Kelli Stack her third Pure Hockey East Player of the Week honors this season as she also became the league goal scorer with 65 goals in Hockey East contests.
Stack is already the league's leading point scorer, with 126 points.
The Brooklyn Heights, Ohio native began the weekend with two goals in a 3-1 win against Providence on Friday, January 28. Stack scored the Eagles' first goal after winning a face-off and taking the puck right to the goal to tie the game 1-1. She gave BC the go-ahead lead in the second period with her second goal of the game.
On Sunday, January 30 Stack scored both of BC's goals in a 2-1 win against Northeastern. Again Stack notched a goal to come from behind to begin BC's scoring in the second period. She registered her second goal of the game three minutes later off a pass from goaltender Molly Schaus that Stack took the length of the rink for a short-handed tally.

As Stack continues to rack up the points, she inches closer to breaking several records. With 194 points, she is four points away from tying BC's all-time Career Points record. Here's a look at how close she is to making even more history here at the Heights.
