CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Reggie Jackson registered a career-high 31 points and eight rebounds to lead Boston College to a 76-72 ACC win over Maryland before 8,606 fans in Conte Forum.
Jackson, who scored 13 points in the first half and 18 points in the second half, shot 12-for-16 from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range. He was 2-for-2 from the foul line.
The host Eagles also got a boost from its bench. Senior Corey Raji recorded 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior walk-on John Cahill sank three three-pointers.
BC used a 16-2 second-half run to turn a three-point deficit into an 11-point lead. A Raji lay-in with 11:46 to play began the rally, and a Jackson trey with 7:05 remaining capped the run. Jackson scored eight points in this decisive stretch, while Raji contributed six points.
The Terrapins answered with seven straight points to pull within four - 63-59 - with 4:32 left. After BC struck back with a Paris three-pointer and a Jackson lay-in to extend the margin to nine points (68-59), Maryland used a 7-2 run to reduce the BC advantage back to four points at 70-66 with 1:24 left.
Jackson then sank a back-breaking three-pointer with 1:01 remaining to give the Eagles a seven-point cushion. Senior Joe Trapani hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.
BC led by as many as eight points in the first half (24-16 with 10:15 left), before Maryland fought back to tie the game at 31-31 with 4:16 to play. The visiting Terps led 40-37 at the intermission.
Game Notes: Cahill logged a career-high 25 minutes, more than three times his previous career best (eight minutes three times). The senior shot 2-for-2 from long range in the first half and 1-for-2 in the second half. His second-half trey evened the game at 42-42 3 with 16:45 to play. Cahill also drew two charges on the defensive end ... BC shot 48.2 percent from the field, including 50.0 percent (14-for-28) in the final 20 minutes ... BC sank 10 three-pointers, marking the 10th time this season that BC has made 10 or more treys in a game ... Senior Biko Paris posted eight points, four rebounds, a team-high four assists and a team-leading two steals.
