Weymouth, Mass. -
The Boston College Women's Tennis team was downed, 4-3, by Brown University on Friday evening at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass.
The Eagles (2-3, 1-0 ACC) successfully captured the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 wins from sophomores Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev on court one and freshmen Veronica Corning and Haley Dixon on the second court.
Kelleher then made quick work of Misia Krasowski at No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to put BC up 2-0.
However, three straight wins from the Bears (1-4, 0-0 Ivy) on courts two, three and six shifted the momentum in their favor.
Junior Katarina Gajic then scored an equalizer on No. 4 singles, defeating Julie Flanzer, 6-4, 6-2.
With the match tied at three, Khmylev was battling Jessica Harrow at No. 5 singles. The Buffalo, N.Y. native lost a tiebreaker in the first set, before winning in the second to force a third and final set. The two sides again went to a tiebreaker where Brown narrowly escaped with the win, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (4).
The Eagles will continue conference play with a match against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. at the Weymouth Club.
