The Boston College Men's fencing team came away with three wins at the Eric Sollee Invitational on Sunday, and the women's team compiled two victories at the event hosted by MIT.
The men won big against Hunter and Yeshiva and took an upset victory over NYU. Their three losses for the day came against #9 Duke, #7 Penn, and #4 Penn State. BC's 12-15 loss to Penn was Penn's closest match of the day.
Peter Souders went 15-1 in sabre, improving his season record to 36-5. "Pete's showing great consistency this season," Head Coach Syd Fadner said. "An 8-1 run against three of the top ten schools in the country on the same day is impressive."
Freshman epeeist Kendall Harmeyer was 11-4 for the day, including a 3-0 sweep of Penn.
BC women's fencing was 2-4 on the day, defeating Hunter and Yeshiva. Their four defeats included losses to #2 Penn State, #8 Penn and #11 Duke.
"It's challenging to face so many top ranked schools on the same day, but having the opportunity to compete against some of the best collegiate fencers in the country is invaluable," Fadner said.
Foilist Jennifer Colacino was 10-5 for the day and notched two wins each against Penn State and Penn.
Next week Fencing travels to Brandeis for the fourth annual fencing Beanpot where they will face Harvard (#2 men, #3 women), MIT, and Brandeis.
