The Boston College field hockey team visited Saint Columbkille Partnership School in Brighton, Mass., on Oct. 24 to teach female students in first through eighth grade the game of field hockey with former player and current teacher Kathleen Murphy.
The Eagles emphasized teamwork, competition and sportsmanship. The Saint Columbkille girls were able to work one-on-one with the BC players as they learned how to properly hold a field hockey stick, pass and receive the ball and dribble. They were also able to ask the team questions about the sport, what it's like to be a student-athlete and about the players' hometowns, as the Eagles originate from around the globe.
"It was very rewarding for the team to be able to give back and share their knowledge about the sport they love, with the hope that some day the girls from Saint Columbkille will do the same," head coach Ainslee Lamb said.
In the spring, Saint Columbkille will be starting a field hockey club and the BC team will visit again and teach the girls even more.
