Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Eagles volleyball Head Coach Chris Campbellannounced on Wednesday that 2011-12 recruit Cassidy Vaughn has elected to enroll at Boston College for the spring semester. Vaughn is a highly recruited 6'0", hitter from Austin, Texas, with the capacity to play on the right-side, middle and outside.
"Cassidy has the rare ability to compete at all three hitting positions. She's fast enough to play in the middle, athletic enough to block on the right, and has enough ball control and game IQ to play all 6 rotations as an outside hitter. She has, in fact, competed at a very high level in all three spots. Her versatility will be a huge asset for our program as we build the depth required of any top tier program.
This past July, Vaughn led the Austin Juniors U-17 Mizuno team to the 2011 USA Volleyball Open Division Junior National Championship. The victory capped a successful club career that was highlighted by a bronze medal at the 2010 national championship, a 2011 Tour of Texas championship, a 2011 Las Vegas Invitational title and three gold medals at national qualifiers.
The highly decorated Vaughn was named to the Texas First Team All-State team and was tabbed as the 5A District 15 Most Valuable Hitter in 2010 after leading Bowie High School to the Bi-District championship and appearance in the Area championship match. The two-time captain and two-time Offensive MVP had lead Bowie to similar feats as a sophomore in 2009, before receiving her first All-District award. Vaughn has also been named to the Academic All-District team four times.
Vaughn is considering a career in the legal field and will pursue a Pre-Law track through the College of Arts & Sciences, beginning in January.
