XC Await New England Championship, Women Defend Title

Chestnut Hill, Mass. –The Boston College cross country teams will compete in the New England Championship on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Franklin Park in Boston. The women look to defend their title, while the men aim to continue their upward trend at the meet.
The women’s sub varsity heat will kick off the meet at 11 a.m. The men’s sub varsity and the championship heats will follow in approximately 45 minute intervals. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as parking near the course is limited.
The women’s squad is ranked No. 7 in the Northeast Region, with the men tabbed at No. 13.
In 2010, the women claimed their second championship in three seasons with a team score of 26 points against a 47 team field. Senior Jillian King took second place in the field of 322 with a time of 17:22, as the BC front-five all finished in the top 12.
Last season, the men made their best showing at the meet in three years with 289 points against a 47 team field that featured seven nationally-ranked and 21 regionally-ranked programs. Junior Louis Serafini led BC with 25:27 clip over the eight kilometer course to take 32nd of 318 athletes.

The NEICAAA is comprised of 65 academic institutions in the six states that make up New England. Originally formed in 1886 with seven charter members, the organization is now made up of 17 Division-I schools, with six Division-II members and 35 Division-III colleges and universities.
