CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
The Boston College rowing team welcomes 28 freshmen to the roster for the 2011-12 season, according to an announcement made by the rowing staff on Friday, Oct. 7.
The freshmen were officially made part of the team on Sept. 23 after a two week trial/learn to row period that ended with a tryout.
"We believe all of the athletes that were named to the team have the ability to make a tremendous contribution to BC rowing," Assistant Coach Amy Weatherby said.
The tryout consisted of rowing, running, and erging. Newcomer Ellen Burr set a new tryout record on the run with a time of 21:56 for two laps around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir.
"We have challenged this group try to exceed the results that the strong BC Class of 2014 set last year," Weatherby explained.
The first race for the freshmen group will be the Green Monster in Hanover, N.H. where the team will try to best last year's third-place overall finish. They will end the fall season at the Foot of the Charles, once again eyeing a top-three finish.
"Overall, the Class of 2015 has a lot of talent and potential to raise the level of the entire BC rowing team," commented Weatherby.
