HOCKEY FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Five members of the Boston College women's ice hockey team participated in the USA Hockey Women's Holiday Camp in Blaine, Minn. from December 26-31 to try out for the National Team.
Seniors Kelli Stack and Molly Schaus, sophomore Blake Bolden, and freshmen Meagan Mangene and Taylor Wasylk were among the 40 players tried out for the National Team.
Stack and Schaus are veterans of the camp, having been invited and named to the National Team in 2007, 2008, and 2009 as well. Last year they participated in the Qwest Tour that led them to the Vancouver Winter Olympics, where they won silver medals.
It was the first invitation for Bolden, Mangene, and Wasylk.
In other USA Hockey news, four incoming players were named to the U.S. Women's National U-18 Team. Alex Carpenter, Emily Field, Megan Miller, and Emily Pfalzer traveled to Stockholm, Sweden this month for the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's U18 Championship. Team USA has dominated the playing field so far, defeating Sweden twice, the Czech Republic, and Japan.
BLISTERING PACE
Kelli Stack, who has 34 points - 21 goals, 13 assists - is the top points and goals scorer in Hockey East and nationally is ranked first in goals per game (1.17) and eighth in points per game (1.89). She returned to the Heights this season after competing with the U.S. Women's team in the Vancouver Winter Olympics last year, where she won a silver medal.
She has tallied at least one point in 15 games, including 10 multiple-point efforts. Three of those games have been three-point contests and on December 5 against Harvard, Stack tallied a four-point game with three goals and an assist.
No stranger to accolades, this season she has twice won Hockey East Player of the Week in November (Nov. 1, 22) and been named Hockey East Player of the Month for October and November.
