The No. 25 Boston College women's basketball team will host Harvard tonight at Conte Forum. The Eagles are now 12-2 on the season, while Harvard is 6-5.
BC is coming off a home loss to Dayton, 89-77, on Monday, Jan. 3. Senior Stefanie Murphy led the Eagles with her eight double-double of the season.
Harvard defeated Massachusetts, 83-70, on Jan. 2. Brogan Berry led four Crimson players in double-digits with 18 points. Victoria Lippert added 17, Christine Clark scored 16 points and Emma Markley notched 13.
BC vs. HARVARD
BC and Harvard are tied in the head-to-head series at 8-8. Harvard won the last two games against BC. Last season, Harvard defeated BC, 82-81, in Cambridge.
OFFENSIVE MINDED
The Boston College women's basketball team is averaging a program high 85.9 points per game this season. The Eagles highest scoring season was in 1986-87 when the team averaged 74.1 points per game. BC is still in the top five in scoring offense in the country. The Eagles are second in the ACC behind North Carolina. The team is shooting 48 percent from the field and 35 percent from the three-point line this season.
ON A ROLL
Stefanie Murphy seems to love the month of December. As a freshman Murphy earned the WBCA Player of the Month. As a junior, Murphy broke out of a scoring slump and averaged 11.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in December. Murphy continued to shine in this December. She averaged 15.9 points and 10.6 rebounds in the seven games. She also has five double-doubles, including a 20 point, 11 rebound performances against Penn State and a 16 points, 11 rebound night vs. Rutgers. The Londonderry, NH native started off January in the same manner. Murphy notched 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss to Dayton. It was her ACC leading eighth double-double this season. She now has 26 career double-doubles. Murphy is currently averaging 16.5 ppg. and leads the ACC in rebounds with an 8.8 average.
GAME NOTES • BC opened the season at 11-0, the best start in program history. The 2004-05 team holds the record for winning 12 consecutive games at mid-season.
• Sophomore Kerri Shields has hit at least one three-pointer in the last six games.
• Stefanie Murphy is fourth on the all-time rebounding list with 799. Senior Carolyn Swords took over the top spot earlier this season and currently has 965 career rebounds.
• Freshman Kristen Doherty leads BC in steals with 39. She has six steals in three games and five in one game this season. Doherty is also third in the ACC in assists-to-turnover ratio.
• The team is averaging 19.3 assists per game. BC has notched 20 or more assists in eight games this season.
• BC will open up ACC action on Sunday, Jan. 9 as the Eagles host No. 8/8 North Carolina at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for an adult and $3.00 for a youth. The game will also be televised at NESN.
