SKATING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER
On Sunday, January 30, the Boston College women's hockey team will participate in the Fifth Annual Women's Hockey East "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer" event.
In the spring of 2006, the WHEA Coaches collectively decided to come up with an event that would not only increase awareness in their sport and our conference, but also give the student-athletes a chance to give something back to the communities in which they study and play hockey. Thus "Skating Strides" was born - raising both awareness and dollars in the fight against breast cancer. WHEA's inaugural Skating Strides 2007 raised over $20,000. The second annual event expanded to six games and raised over $36,000. In the first four years of the event, Hockey East has collectively raised over $114,000 for breast cancer charities, while at the same time increased attendance at women's hockey games.
All proceeds are split between the local breast cancer charities, which for Boston College is the Friends of Mel's . Checks made out ahead of time can be made payable to "Friends of Mel" or "WHEA Skating Strides."
