YALE DROPS WOMEN'S TENNIS, 6-1, IN SEASON OPENER

New Haven, Conn. - Boston College lost to Yale University, 6-1, in the season opener on Jan. 22, 2011 at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn.
The Bulldogs (1-0) were able to take the early lead after securing the doubles point with two wins over the Eagles (0-1) in the best-of-three format.
At No. 1 doubles, BC sophomores Alex Kelleher and Olga Khymlev took Yale's Victoria Brook and Lindsay Clark to tiebreakers before falling, 9-8 (1). Eagle pairings of freshmen Haley Dixon and Veronica Corning (court two) and senior Katharine Attwell with junior Katarina Gajic (court three) both were defeated in their matches, 8-5.
Gajic earned Boston College's single point when Stevi Petrelli retired with the match even at three games in the third set, 4-6, 6-2, 3-3 ret.
Attwell and Kelleher also rebounded with wins in the second set to push their matches to the limit. At No. 1 singles, Kelleher fell to Victoria Brook, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, and Attwell fell to Blair Seideman, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, on court three.
Boston College will resume competition when it hosts UMass on Jan. 30 at noon at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
