Miami Tops Women's Basketball, 65-53

Coral Gables, FLA - The Boston College women's basketball team fell to Miami, 65-53, in an ACC game at the BankUnited Center on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles dropped to 14-3 and 1-2 in the ACC, while Miami is 17-1 and 4-0 in the conference.
Boston College was led by Carolyn Swords with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Stefanie Murphy added 10 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman Kristen Doherty added 12 points in the loss.
The Eagles held a slim lead at the half, 30-27. BC shot 42 percent from the floor and held a 29-12 lead on rebounds. The Eagles downfall in the first half was 18 turnovers in which Miami responded with 11 points. Swords led BC in the half with 11 points and nine boards, while Murphy added eight points and five rebounds.
BC opened up the second half on a 4-0 run on a Doherty three and a foul shot by Swords. Miami went on a 10-0 run as the Eagles turned the ball over five times on the full-court pressure from the Hurricanes. That's when Miami's Riquanna Williams (33 points, 6-for-12 from the three-point line) stepped in and took the game over. She would hit five three's and helped increased the Hurricanes lead to 10 points with eight minutes to play.
Boston College shot 41.7 percent from the floor but threw the ball away 31 times. Miami had just 11 turnovers but scored 25 points off of the Eagles turnovers.
GAME NOTES
• BC held a 29-12 lead in rebounds at the half.
• Stefanie Murphy picked up her career-high 10th double-double (10 pts., 15 rebs.), while Carolyn Swords earned her seventh of the season (23 pts., 13 rebs.).
• The Eagles had a season-high 31 turnovers.
