Women's Hockey Preview: BU and Northeastern

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
The sixth-ranked Boston College Eagles will host their crosstown rivals, the third-ranked Boston University Terriers, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 15. BC and BU split November's weekend series, with a 6-3 Eagles win on November 20 and a 1-0 Terriers victory on November 21. BC leads the all-time series 18-9-3.
On Sunday, January 16 the Eagles will travel across town to play at Northeastern at 2:00 p.m. at Matthews Arena. The Huskies lead the all-time series 32-16-3 but BC won this season's earlier matchup 3-1.
LAST TIME vs. BOSTON UNIVERSITY (November 21, 2010)
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Coming off Saturday's high scoring game, the Boston College women's hockey team played a much closer second game in the series against Boston University, losing 1-0 on Sunday, November 21 at Kelley Rink.
The Terriers made the first and only mark at 12:29 in the first period when Jenn Wakefield scored unassisted to give BU the go-ahead lead and eventual win.
BC had several opportunities to score but were unable to capitalize as BU's Kerrin Sperry saved 22 shots in goal to shut out the Eagles.
BU held a slight 23-22 advantage in shots, while Molly Schaus saved 22 shots in between the pipes for BC.
LAST TIME vs. NORTHEASTERN (November 3, 2010)
BOSTON, Mass. - Northeastern scored first but the Boston College women's hockey team responded with three goals of its own to claim a 3-1 victory and claim another two league points.
Despite a scoreless first period for the Eagles after the Huskies lit the lamp at 15:46, BC was able to start a comeback with a power play goal from Mary Restuccia 26 seconds into second period play off a pass from Kelli Stack and Jessica Martino.
A few minutes later, Stack assisted on her second goal of the game when Taylor Wasylk found the back of the net on another power play at 2:48. Restuccia also assisted on the goal.
The finishing touch came from freshman Danielle Doherty at 12:30 in the second period, assisted by fellow freshman Melissa Bizzari.
EAGLES RING IN NEW YEAR WITH TWO WINS
The Eagles started the New Year with a solid 3-1 win at Yale on Monday, January 3. Blake Bolden scored first for the Eagles, pushing the puck between the pipes at 3:09 in the first period. Kelli Stack assisted on the goal.
Danielle Welch followed with an early second period goal off a pass from Mary Restuccia at 1:16. Yale narrowed the gap soon after at 2:56 to end the middle frame down 2-1.The Eagles tallied the final score in the last minute of the final frame to secure a 3-1 win as Taylor Wasylk netted a pass from Stack.
BC outshot Yale 52-18 and Molly Schaus stopped 17 shots in her return to goal for the Eagles.
BC followed up the win with another at Maine, outscoring its Hockey East opponent 6-1. BC featured five different goal scorers and six players with assists in the win.
The Eagles got off to a fast start, scoring three goals in the first frame from Andrea Green, Taylor Wasylk, and Kelli Stack. Blake Bolden assisted on the first two goals.
Maine registered its first and only goal in the middle frame but BC was quick to respond as Ashley Motherwell recorded the Eagles' fourth goal and Wasylk tallied her second goal of the game to set the score at 5-1. Danielle Doherty netted the sixth and final goal. Molly Schaus stopped 16 shots in goal.
WASYLK RECEIVES FOURTH ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD
For the fourth time this season, freshman Taylor Wasylk has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week after tallying three goals in two games.
On Monday, January 3 Wasylk ushered in the New Year by contributing the Eagles' final goal in a 3-1 win at Yale. The Port Huron, Michigan native extended her scoring streak on Saturday, January 8 at Maine, netting two goals in the 6-1 conference win.
Wasylk (12-7-19) leads BC's rookies in all scoring and is second on the team in goals behind Kelli Stack. In Hockey East, she is ranked second in Freshman Scoring.
BLISTERING PACE,/b>
Kelli Stack, who has 36 points - 22 goals, 14 assists - is the top points and goals scorer in Hockey East and nationally is ranked second in goals per game (1.16) and seventh in points per game (1.89). She returned to the Heights this season after competing with the U.S. Women's team in the Vancouver Winter Olympics last year, where she won a silver medal.
She has tallied at least one point in 17 games, including 11 multiple-point efforts. Three of those games have been three-point contests and on December 5 against Harvard, Stack tallied a four-point game with three goals and an assist.
No stranger to accolades, this season she has twice won Hockey East Player of the Week in November (Nov. 1, 22) and been named Hockey East Player of the Month for October and November.
