TRACK & FIELD CONCLUDES DARTHMOUTH RELAYS

The Boston College Indoor Track and Field teams concluded the Dartmouth Relays on Sunday, Jan. 9 in Hanover, N.H. The back-to-back defending champion women's team took third with 56 points - electing to only compete in 11-of-17 events - and the men took fifth with 19 points in just five events.
Sophomore Taylor Aizenstadt, as well as juniors Jillian King and Ian Thomas each claimed individual titles at the Leverone Field House.
Aizenstadt picked up her first career win in the women's high jump with a height of 1.68m (5-6.0ft.), Thomas out-kicked Northeastern's Brian Doyle by 18-thousandths of a second to win the men's mile in 4:19.39 and King outlasted Erin Ballard of New Balance Boston to win the 800-meter competition out of Heat-I with a time of 2:14.71.
Also competing in the 800-meters was graduate Jessica Driscoll and sophomore Kyle Nelson. Nelson was seven-tenths shy of his PR at 1:59.74 in ninth place, while Driscoll was the second collegian woman to finish, earning two points for BC in fifth place with a time of 2:20.95. Later in the day, she doubled-up with a 5:09.19 mile time for ninth place.
In all, Boston College entered 11 athletes (both men and women) the mile.
On the men's side, senior Michael Keebler added to BC point tally with a fifth place finish at 4:23.86. Joining Thomas and Keebler, were freshman Anthony Bellitti (4:30.35), sophomore Michael Masse (4:37.79), graduate Cory Ahern (4:41.27) and freshman John McDonald (4:44.15).
In the tightly contested women's mile, graduate Madeline Wallace led the women's team with a personal record of 5:01.37 to take sixth place and score for BC. Sophomore Bridget Dahlberg followed just behind in seventh (5:03.94), while freshman Alanna Poretta (5:16.25) and sophomore Sarah Lord (5:26.72) also competed.
The men also entered a large contingent in the 3,000-meter competition as well. There sophomore Jordan Hamm was able to come away with a point for the Eagles by finishing in sixth with a PR of 8:35.20.
Sophomore Louis Serafini (8:43.43), senior Theodore Doyle (8:54.820, graduate Brian Hughes (8:58.11) and sophomore Akash Chougule (9:12.16 - PR) also contested at the three kilometer distance.
In the women's 3K, sophomore Allison Stasiuk and senior Christy Titus crossed the line in 10:31.87 and 10:38.94 respectively.
BC picked up five more points in the shorter distances. Junior Sara Missert captured fourth place in the 400-meters (61.65) and classmate Rory Cellucci was sixth in the 60m (8.01).
Freshmen Margaret O'Dea also advance to the finals of the 60m, finishing in eighth at 8.11, and Claire Bingham reached the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdles where she ran a 9.55.
The women's side constructed groups for the 800-meter and distance medley relays. The DMR composed of Dahlberg, King, Wallace and senior Hope Krause took second in 12:08.38 and the 4x200m group of Cellucci, Missert, Bingham and O'Dea came in fourth at 1:49.75.
The Eagles were successful in the field as well.
The men's score continued to grow when junior Matthew Adetula delivered his best long jump in two years to take fourth place and four points on a leap of 6.87m (22-6.50ft.).
In the weight throw, senior Matthew Kosmas completed the Eagles scoring when he turned in a distance of 16.92m (55-6.25ft.) for fifth place and two points. Women's counterpart, senior Kelsey Huckins captured second place on a toss of 16.70m (54-9.5ft.), earning eight points for the women, while sophomore Margaret Stapleton-Smith recorded a PR of 11.64m (38-2.25ft.).
Huckins collected another eight points as the runner-up in the shot put at 12.69m (41-7.75ft.).
The Eagles will resume competition at the Boston University Invitational on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at 4 p.m.
