Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Volleyball Head Coach Chris Campbell announced that freshman Alex Fitzmorris will transfer to Boston College and compete for the Eagles during the 2011 season, early Tuesday morning.
As a freshman, Fitzmorris was a right-side and middle blocker at Arkansas. She posted a hitting percentage of .255 and averaged 0.66 blocks per game for the Razorbacks, who went 14-17, 8-12 SEC this past fall - their best campaign since 2006.
"I am extremely pleased to add a player of Alex's caliber to our roster," Campbell said. "Her length and athleticism will be a real asset to our team's blocking - an area we identified this past season as one we needed to address. Alex's experience in the SEC will have prepared her well to contribute quickly for us in the equally competitive ACC."
Originally from Overland Park, Kan., Fitzmorris led the Blue Valley West to back-to-back appearances in the Kansas 6A state championship match. As a senior, she recorded the highest hitting percentage of any Jaguar and was the recipient of the Most Improved Award. Her club, Team KC, claimed the regional crown in 2008, before advancing to the national tournament. In the classroom, Fitzmorris was a three-time East Kansas League Scholar-Athlete from 2007-09.
"I look forward to continue developing Alex's game to its fullest potential," Campbell concluded.
