The Boston College women's cross country team received the No. 25 national ranking by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday, September 28. Earlier in the week, BC was ranked as No. 4 in the Northeast Region by the USTFCCCA.
The Atlantic Coast Conference saw five teams recognized in the national poll this week. Boston College joins fellow ACC members No. 2 Florida State, No. 10 Duke, No. 16 Virginia and No. 29 North Carolina. The BIG EAST featured the most teams with six, including No. 1 Villanova, followed by the ACC (5), Big-Ten (5), Big-12 (4), Pac-10 (4), Conference-USA (2), Mountain West (2) and the Southeastern Conference and the Ivy League with one each.
The Eagles recently returned from a trip to the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational Meet in Falcon Heights, Minn., where the squad to sixth in 29 team field featuring eight of the top-30 teams in the country. BC earned 165 points to conquer three of the nation's best teams and a total of 11 programs ranked in their respective regions. Boston College only finished behind current No. 15 Iowa State, No. 10 Duke, No. 9 Arizona, No. 12 New Mexico and No. 17 Providence.
