Volleyball Set to Take on Maryland in ACC Opener

The Boston College volleyball team travels to College Park, Md. to kick off the ACC season on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Eagles (8-5) open conference play against Maryland (9-3) for the third straight year.
Headed into conference play, BC rides a three game winning streak. This past weekend, first year head coach Chris Campbell and the Eagles earned wins over Central Connecticut State, Holy Cross and Brown at the Brown Invitational, while the Terrapins went 1-2 at the Villanova Classic.
Two Eagles entered the BC record book at the tournament. Senior setter Dani Moskitis recorded her 1,010 career assist (9th all-time) and junior outside hitter Brennan Clark accumulated career dig number 1,004 (7th all-time).
On offense, Boston College is led by junior Tsvetelina Dureva with an average of 3.23 kills per set and a .240 attack percentage. Outside hitters Val Mattaliano and Clark have also had a big impact, averaging 2.56 and 2.52 kills per set respectively.
The majority of the offense has flowed through sophomore Krissy Mussenden so far this season. The setter has recorded 265 assists, an average of 9.46 per set. Moskitis and freshman Cagla Sen have also played a large part in ball distribution, with 105 and 99 assists of their own.
Senior Kristen Baader leads the way from behind the line with 19 service aces. The captain also paces the squad defensively, having racked up 202 digs so far this year. While seeing time at libero and outside hitter, Baader averages 4.21 digs per set. Clark is second on the team with 186 digs and an average of 3.88 digs per set.
Freshman middle hitter Melissa McTighe leads the Eagles with 42 total blocks. Her average of 0.98 blocks per set narrowly tops sophomore counterpart Krystle Higgins' average of 0.97 (38 total blocks). Mattaliano is second on the team with 39 blocks.
The Terrapins are led by junior middle blocker Lisa Scott, who is coming off a weekend where she recorded .357 attack percentage and 15 blocks, and freshman outside hitter Mary Cushman, the team leader in kills (125).
Boston College trails in the all-time series, 4-7.
