NEWTON, Mass. - Four players - Conor Fitzpatrick, Karl Reddick, Charlie Rugg and Edvin Worley - scored one goal apiece as No. 13 Boston College jumped out to a 4-0 first-half lead and defeated Boston University by that score before a capacity crowd of 2,000 fans at the Newton Campus Field.
Fitzpatrick and Reddick scored the Eagles' first two goals just 47 seconds apart. Then Rugg and Worley struck 14 seconds apart in the 43rd minute to take a 4-0 lead before the conclusion of a first half in which Boston College outshot Boston University, 15-8.
Fitzpatrick settled Patrick Chin's throw in and blasted a shot from 30 yards out over BU freshman goalkeeper Brandon Briggs at 33:18 for his third goal of the season.
Less than one minute later, Reddick doubled the Eagle lead, one-timing Kyle Bekker's free kick into the right side netting for his first goal of the season. Bekker's kick was taken from 43 yards out on the far side and curled to the near post.
Rugg lifted Boston College to a 3-0 advantage at 42:45, connecting on a bouncing turn-around shot taken with his right foot just inside the left post past a diving Briggs.
Worley, who assisted on Rugg's goal, concluded the scoring just 14 seconds later, finishing off one-time feeds from junior Amit Aburmad and Rugg into the right side netting at 42:59.
The teams played a scoreless second half in which the visiting Terriers outshot BC, 6-3.
BC totaled an 18-14 edge in total shots in the match. Boston University finished with an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks, including a 5-1 edge in the second half of play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Luthy recorded three saves in 75:41. Senior Ayotunde Ogunbiyi did not record a save in the final 14:19.
BU's Briggs tallied two saves in 66:01. Sophomore Trevor McManamon tallied one brilliant save in the final 23:59.
Next, Boston College will host Rhode Island on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.
