Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
The Boston College volleyball team is headed to Providence, R.I. to compete in the Brown Tournament from September 17-18. The Eagles will face Central Connecticut State on Friday at 2:30 p.m., followed by meetings with Holy Cross at 3 p.m. and Brown at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Eagles (5-5) enter the fourth and final tournament of the season before beginning conference play at Maryland on September 21. Senior setter Dani Moskitis needs five assists to become the ninth player in Eagles history to surpass the 1,000 assists mark, while outside hitter Brennan Clark can become the seventh Eagle to reach the millennial plateau in digs, if the junior records 38.
"We spent this week correcting some weaknesses we pinpointed in the last tournament," head coach Chris Campbell stated. "This weekend will be an evaluation of how well effective our practices were. Some aspects of our game have come along quite well. Offensively, we're swinging with more confidence. I would like to see our blocking and defense be more effective this weekend as well."
BC's first opponent will be Central Connecticut State University. CCSU (2-5) is led by sophomore outside hitter Emily Cochran and senior libero Kaitlyn Petrella. The Blue Devils are coming off a loss to Hartford University, 3-1, on Wednesday night.
The Eagles go up against Holy Cross (5-8) for the third time this season, with the Crusaders taking both matches, 3-0, 3-2. Outside hitter Megan Lynch has been the driving force for the Holy Cross offense in both matches. The sophomore has accumulated 36 kills and 24 digs against BC this season.
"They are a well coached, well trained, scrappy team and it will be a battle for us," Campbell said.
Boston College concludes the tournament against the host, Brown University. The Bears (3-4) are led by senior captain Danielle Vaughan, who has 19 blocks headed into the tournament, and sophomore outside hitter Katrina Post, who is averaging 2.83 kills per set.
Live stats for all matches are available through PrestoSports. Boston College's meeting with Brown on Saturday can be streamed live for a low fee.
Noteworhty: Junior outside hitters Brennan Clark and Tsvetelina Dureva both recorded their first double-doubles last Friday and ride a three match streaks heading to Providence.
